The objective of this contract work was to improve traffic conditions on Iera Odos, in the area of Perrevou Street in the Municipality of Haidari, with the aim of addressing road safety problems as well as possible without harming the Botanical Gardens or other adjoining properties.

The required transport and hydraulic projects carried out are:

• Correction of the slope in the 2 horizontally aligned curves (curves K3 and K4 in the Study).

• The construction of a central island with a barrier of the ‘New Jersey’ type on the section from KM 0+168.99 up to KM 0+706.37 and a kerbed-paved island on the remaining section, up to the end of the project. In this way the entry of vehicles into oncoming traffic is averted and at the same time pedestrians and vehicles coming from vertical local streets are prevented from crossing the road, which (due to a lack of visibility) was a major factor in increasing the risk of an accident.

• The construction of a paved island with a ‘Trief’ kerb on the section from KM 0+91.69 up to KM 0+703.96 in the downhill section of Iera Odos and a kerbed-paved island in the uphill lane on Iera Odos.

• The laying of an anti-skid asphalt coat along the entire length of the project.

• Collection of stormwater runoff that used to run across the road surface and its channeling into a catchment drain in the area (near the entrance to the Dromokaiteio Clinic).

• Improvement of horizontal and vertical road signs.

• The construction of a lighting network along the entire length of the project.

• The construction of an infrastructure network of illuminated signs along the entire length of the project.

• The construction of new crossings or re-siting of existing OTE crossings.

• Improvement of road sections.
