Α port project refers to the construction of a quay which will support large cruise ships in the area of Ag. Nikolaos, in the center of the Pireaus port. The existing quay wall, which is 180,00m long and is of inadequate land space and cannot provide support to modern cruise ships which require a quay wall of at least 250m in length and adequate land space. The new quay wall that is scheduled to be constructed will be 281m long, -11,50m deep and will have an additional land space of 8.432,00m2. The pre-mentioned in conjunction with the scheduled conversion of the ground floor of the building ‘pagoda’ into a modern services station for cruise ship passengers will give a great boost to the development of cruising through the port of Piraeus both in quantity and in quality.

The project is scheduled to be constructed of caissons of reinforced concrete 12,00m in height, which will be placed on base rip-rap of atomic weight of 0,5-50kg, from which the superstructure of un-reinforced concrete (mass concrete) which in turn will be adequately equipped with cast-iron bollards, links and elastic protective impacters for the quay walls. The area behind the quay wall will be filled with rip-rap of a relief prism of atomic weight of 0,5-50kg, on which sub-base and base aggregate will be sprayed, matching the required number of layers and a shaping of the final surface in conjunction with the existing condition will take place. On and behind the superstructure canals and manholes will be constructed for the passing-through of any kind of supply networks. It must be noted that the choice of CAISSON is a one-way in order to achieve construction during the winter period (period of 7 months), and because it is impossible to acquire and occupy adequate space within the Central Port for the construction of solid artificial blocks.
